American Legion Alafia Post 148 welcomes eligible veterans who wish to continue serving their fellow veterans, their families, and our community. Membership offers an opportunity to build friendships, support veterans' programs, participate in Post activities, and contribute to the mission of The American Legion.
Who Is Eligible to Join?
Membership in The American Legion is generally available to individuals who served at least one day of active military duty in the United States Armed Forces on or after December 7, 1941, and were honorably discharged or continue to serve honorably.
Qualifying service may include active-duty service and eligible service in the National Guard or Reserves, subject to American Legion membership requirements.
Applicants must provide appropriate documentation establishing qualifying military service and discharge status when applicable.
Eligibility is determined under the current national membership rules of The American Legion. If you are unsure whether your service qualifies, please contact Post 148 for assistance.

How to Become a Member
- Review the membership eligibility requirements.
- Complete the online American Legion membership application.
- Provide documentation verifying qualifying military service, as requested by the Post.
- Arrange payment of applicable membership dues.
- The Post will review the application and contact you regarding the next steps in the membership process.
Required Documentation
Applicants should be prepared to provide proof of qualifying military service. A DD Form 214 is commonly used by veterans who have separated from military service. Other acceptable service documentation may be considered when appropriate.
Protect Your Personal Information
If submitting a DD214, black out your Social Security number before providing a copy. Do not submit unredacted sensitive documents through ordinary email. Contact Post 148 if you need assistance with the documentation process.
